Referee Jorge Larrionda from Uruguay who led the match between Germany and England in the round of 16 of the World Cup 2010, was found dead last night not long after the end of the match between Germany and England. Referee Jorge Larrionda was shot dead right in his head by an unknown shooter believed to be a sniper. A few witnesses commented that it happened so fast. 2 shots were fired which was believe to have come from a hotel nearby not far from Mangaung/Bloemfontein – Free State Stadium where the match was held between Germany and England.
In the meantime, the local police is investigating the incident and has been questioning a few eye witnesses. The shooting is believed to be related to the goal that was disallowed by the referee. Frank Lampard’s shot was disallowed by the referee although the ball was clearly in the goal before bouncing out. Video replay indicated that the ball went past the goal line and bounced out which led to the referee’s decision to disallow the goal.
Until this news was announced, the shooter has not been identified and probably will never be, because my alarm went off and I woke up from my sleep after a dissapointing result of the Germany vs England match and the referee’s decision.
