New Ash Cloud Bury Million Passengers’ Hope

New Ash Cloud Bury Million Passengers’ Hope — Due to a new Iceland volcanic ash cloud is spreading in the UK airspace, million stranded passengers on the country get no hope again considering that most of England’s airports are immediately closed.

Manchester Airport had hoped to reopen at 0900 BST but has been forced to close again due to the continuing volcanic eruption in Iceland.

Air traffic control body Nats said the airspace above parts of northern England would be open from 1300 BST to 1900 BST allowing some flights.

But there will be no flights before 1900 BST for the rest of England.

A flight from Aberdeen landed at Newcastle Airport at 0939 BST. A service from Newcastle to the Isle of Man is due to leave at 1020 BST.

Earlier, Nats described how the eruption, which has caused the closure of the UK’s airspace since Thursday, had worsened.

It said: “The volcano eruption in Iceland has strengthened and a new ash cloud is spreading south and east towards the UK.”

The situation is due to be reviewed again at 1500 BST.

Elsewhere, HMS Albion has arrived in Spain to collect stranded service personnel.

The Plymouth-based ship will bring home 200 soldiers from 3rd Battalion The Rifles who have been deployed in Afghanistan for six months.

HMS Albion is also expected to rescue about 200 British nationals.

Two other Royal Navy ships are on standby for similar rescue missions.

A Foreign and Commonwealth Office 24-hour consular helpline has been set up on 020 7008 0000 for people stuck abroad.
