Redstone Arsenal Explosion On Wednesday Killed 1

A shocking explosion in Redstone Arsenal on Wednesday, May 5th reportedly killed 1 people and at least 1 people got injured. According to an emergency management official, the cause of Army’s Redstone Arsenal explosion is still unclear. So far, there’s no immediate reports given to the public.

Madison County emergency operations coordinator Jim Pockrus said the morning explosion occurred at the sprawling military base at Huntsville that is home to the Army missile command.

Pockrus said it was a “chemical-type” explosion and arsenal officials were “not requesting any help” from city or county responders. An arsenal spokesman did not immediately return a call for comment.

Redstone Arsenal, which says it employs 32,000 people on 38,000 acres at Huntsville, is the center of Army missile and helicopter programs. The base also develops and maintains weapons systems for the Army.

It is also where the federal government provides explosives training for state and local bomb technicians and investigators. Planning for the National Center for Explosives Training and Research began in 2002 in the wake of the 9/11 terror attacks and the center graduated its first class last year.

The explosion appeared to be at a site separate from the center.
